Derwent Hill is a busy, friendly Outdoor Education Centre set in idyllic surroundings in Portinscale, just outside Keswick, in Cumbria.
We provide high quality residential outdoor education courses for schools, colleges and youth groups as well as corporate training, team building events and group accommodation for adults.

Chef / Cook (Permanent Full Time)
The role of Chef/Cook is to provide nutritious and exciting meals for all our visiting clientele with all dietary requirements considered and catered for. Our Catering staff are ambitious, enthusiastic and driven to create quality food, and work as part of a close-knit team. Good communication and a willingness to give support to the Venue Manager and team members. Our team ensures the client’s needs are met, and centre standards are withheld, throughout all service and preparation.
At Derwent Hill part of the experience for our clients is the enjoyment of healthy, filling meals throughout the day. Strong customer relations and excellent people skills are necessary in the role of the Chef/Cook. Clients, especially our school visitors are often face to face and good relations are important. Being proactive in ensuring that the statutory requirements pertaining to Health & Safety, Hygiene Standards and environmental health are consistently met to a high standard.
The role requires our chefs/cooks to use their initiative to order stock and reporting any shortages or maintenance requirements to the Venue Manager. Salary: £12.85 per hour and a holiday plusage payment of 15%
The role of general assistant is varied and flexible and includes the cleaning of the centre, general housework, bar duties and the service of meals.

Associate Tutors (Freelance)
We are interested in hearing from freelance tutors who are passionate about outdoor education and training to join our established team. You must be able to work on your own initiative and with a variety of different clients including school pupils of all ages and recreational groups. The centre is open seven days a week with a greater concentration of available work at weekends. You should be available for periods of work throughout the year, particularly between April and October, and to undergo a period of induction. As an Associate Tutor you must be registered self-employed and have your own indemnity insurance.
